In the coat of arms of A Coruña appears the silhouette of the legendary Tower of Hercules and, under it, two crossbones and a skull.
The origin of the legend must be sought in King Alfonso X El Sabio. In his Estoria de Espanna, the monarch narrates in the 13th century precisely how Hercules built a huge lighthouse in these lands to commemorate the victory over the giant Xerion.
